A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2008-09 and 2009-10 at Pantnagar (Uttrakhand) to assess the effect of newly developed cultivars and various levels of fertility on growth, yield attributes, and seed yield of toria (Brassica rapa var. toria). Amongst the three cultivars tested, 'PT Synthetic 1' had significantly higher number of branches, number of siliquae per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, 1000-seed weight, and seed weight per plant. It yielded significantly higher over the other two cultivars. Yield attributes, seed and straw yields increased with increase in fertility levels. However, the increase in seed yield was significant only up to 100% of the recommended fertility level. The extent of increase in seed yield over 75% of the recommended fertility level was 7.73, 9.37 and 12.18% in 2008-09 and 7.11, 9.20 and 10.84% in 2009-10 with application of 100%, 125% and 150% of the recommended fertility level, respectively.Downloads
