Abstract

The major weed species in the experimental field were Echinochloa crus-galli, E. colona, Leptochloa chinensis, Ischaemum rugosum, Caesulia axillaris and Cyperus spp. Imazosulfuron applied alone as preemergence did not control grassy weeds, broad leaved weeds and sedges at any of the doses. Imazosulfuron as tank mixture with anilofos (40 + 250, 30 + 300 and 40 + 300 g/ha) and pretilachlor (30 + 600, 30 + 500 and 40 + 500 g/ha) applied as pre-emergence provided better control of grassy weeds (E. crus-galli, E. colona, L. chinensis, I. rugosum), broad leaved weeds (C. axillaris) and sedges (Cyperus spp.) Imazosulfuron + pretilachlor at 40 + 500 g/ha gave highest yield (6406 kg ha-1) and yield attributes due to less density and dry matter of weeds. Uncontrolled weed growth caused 33 per cent reduction in grain yield of rice.
