Abstract

This study was conducted in the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand state. The constraints identified by the farmers in adoption of cultivation of Direct Seeded Rice were studied and developed socio-economic strategies for popularization of Direct Seeded Rice. The ranking of various constraints faced by farmers suggested that weed problem and lack of leveled field's stand at the top of the list. The study has observed that there were lots of differences between recommended package of practices and actually adopted by the sampled farmers for direct seeded rice cultivation. The farmers who were satisfied with the direct seeded rice cultivation indicated various benefits of this technique, such as input saving, like diesel and water, economical practice, beneficial for next crop, easy to adopt this practice and less wear and tear of machine due to less use.
