Abstract

Phylogenetic analysis of coat protein sequence of yellow mosaic virus infecting soybean with other
begomoviruses formed three major subgroups consisting of MYMIV, HgYMV and MYMV. SBYMVGKVK-
Bengaluru isolate fell within the HgYMV subgroup and it deviated from MYMV and MYMIV
isolates. Sequence comparisons indicated that SBYMV has the highest nucleotide sequence identity
of about 98.3 per cent and 95.4 per cent with HgYMV-Tamil Nadu:HG [AJ627904.1] and HgYMVSrilanka:
FB [GU323321.1] respectively. The nucleotide sequence identity of SBYMV with MYMV
ranged from 85.1-86.9 per cent, while with MYMIV ranged between 81.6-79.9 per cent. When the
deduced amino acid sequence of individual proteins of SBYMV were compared with those of other
begomoviruses, the highest identities were obtained with HgYMV-Tamil Nadu:HG [AJ627904.1]
(99.6%) and HgYMV-Srilanka:FB [GU323321.1] (97.6%), respectively. The deduced amino acid
identities of SBYMV with Mungbean yellow mosaic virus revealed identities between 91.4-92.6 per
cent while SBYMV identities ranged from 83.2- 85.2 per cent with Mungbean yellow mosaic India
virus.
