The present investigation was carried out at the nursery site of C.I.S.H. Campus, Rae Bareli Road, Lucknow during 2002-2003 to study the effect of environments on the performance of softwood grafting during off seasons (March). Scion-stick of Chakaiya was used for grafting under natural environment and controlled environment with two types of scion-stick i.e. four buds and six buds. Maximum success was recorded (82.50%) under controlled environment compared to natural environment (65.00), whereas scion-stick with six buds recorded maximum success (72.50%) compared to scion-stick with four buds (70.00). Under controlled environment with six buds maximum success (85.00%) was recorded, whereas minimum (60.00%) was recorded under natural environment with four buds. The growth of graft shoots and number of leaves per shoot were maximum in six buds shoot grown under controlled environment as compared to that grown in natural environment.
