Abstract

Evaluation of the resouroe quality of six tree species (leaf biomass, green and fallen) for use as a source of nutrient inputs in agriculture revealed the significant differences in the nutrient and biochemical composition of the leaf materials among species. Green leaves and senescent leaves within each species also differed significantly in their resource quality. The higher nutrient and lower lignin contents in the green leaves revealed that they are better quality materials for decomposition and nutrient source than the fallen senescent litter.
