Abstract

The allelopathic effects of walnut leaf extract on wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. VL 719) seed germination and seedling growth were investigated. Walnut leaf extract was prepared by keeping the crushed dried leaves in distilled water. Wheat seeds were germinated in Petri dishes at 20°C. Significant reduction in seed germination and seedling vigour were observed by the application of walnut leaf extract. However, MGT and T50 are indicated as lower values for higher vigour, increased as the leaf extract concentration increased and found significantly lowest in control. Seed germination and seedling vigour were affected negatively by walnut leaf extracts in concentration dependent manner.
