Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken to find out the dairy animal housing pattern in rural area of
Anand district in middle Gujarat zone. The data were collected from randomly selected 120 dairy animal
owners interviewed personally with well prepared questionnaire. The study revealed that respondents
under category of small (42.50%), medium (50.00%) and large (80.00%) farmers’ provided adequate floor
space as per BIS standard to their dairy animals. The respondents under small farmer category (5.00,
77.50 and 55.00%) have adequate width, depth and height of manger according to the BIS standard to
feed their dairy animals. However, in large famer category 65.00, 65.50 and 75.00 percent respondents
had adequate width, depth and height of manger according to the BIS standard to feed their animals,
respectively. The respondents provided adequate width (5.00, 40.00 and 32.50%) and depth (12.50, 80.00
and 100.00%) of drainage system in their animal shed according to BIS standards in small, medium and
large farmer category, respectively. It is concluded that farmers with larger herd size may be more aware
about the importance of scientific dairy animal housing
