Effect of non-genetic factors on first lactation traits in Kankrej cattle
131
Abstract
The data on 475 Kankrej cows, born from 75 sires calved during 1980 to 2014 maintained at LivestockResearch Station, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar (Gujarat), were
considered for estimating the effect of non-genetic factors on first lactation traits. The means of 300 days
milk yield (F300Y), Total lactation milk yield (FLY), wet average (FWA) and lactation length (FLL) in first
parity were 1754.95±475.28kg, 1847.38±573.42 kg, 5.98±1.23 kg/day and 305.80±57.94 days, respectively.
The result revealed that effect of period of calving was highly significant (P<0.01) on F300Y, FLY and FWA,
while it was significant (P<0.05) on FLL. The effect of season of calving was non-significant on all the milk
production traits of first parity under study. The sex of calf was non-significant on all first lactation traits
where as the effect of sire was significant (P<0.01) on all lactation traits except First Lactation Length.
