Abstract

During quarantine processing of 7 974 samples of brassicas (Brassica spp.) germplasm received from 1976- 2002, Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, the black rot pathogen was intercepted in 424 samples from 12 countries. All the infected samples were salvaged by giving hot water treatment at 50°C for 25 min. No adverse effect of hot water treatment on seed germination was recorded. Country-wise details of the introduction of germplasm of brassicas, interception of X, campestris pv campestris, its survival and economic significance were discussed.
