Abstract
Ailempts were made to find out the optimum level of protein requirement in formulated diets forTilapia, Oreochromis mossambicus. Quality grade dry fish was used as a single source of protein in
different proportions in formulated diets. Identical sized fish fed on formulated diets containing 25, 30,
35, 40, 45 and 50% of protein under controlled condition showed optimum requirement of protein in
formulated diets as 30 to 40%. Tilapia fed on 35% protein grew to 9.3 g and yielded 101.7% feed
efficiency within 8 weeks. Similar higher growth and feed efficienies were also recorded for fish fed
on 30 and 40% protein.
