Abstract
Studies on the ammonia tolerance andgrowth sensitivity of freshwater and penaeid
prawns arc weJl documented (Armstrong et al.
1975, Victor and Arocki'asamy I 99(},
Jayasankar and Muthu 1983). However published
intormation on the effccts of ammonia
on haemocyte population of prawn is lacking.
The present work is aimed at finding out the
effects of selected sublethal ammonium
chloride concentrations on the haemogram
and gill tissues of atyid prawn Caridilla
weberi (de Man).
