134 / 178
Abstract
Nutritive value of four fishes, viz, Botia hymenophysa, Lepidocepkalus irrorata, Monopterus albusand Osteobrama belangeri, endemic in the water bodies of Manipur (India) has been studied. Out of
the four, total protein and lipid contents were highest in O. belangeri (21.31 % and 9.5%); pure protein
and ash contents were highest in B. hymenophysa (17.38% and 2.5%); calcium content was highest in M.
albus (108.00 mg/lOOg) and iron, in L. irrorata (26.01 mg/lOOg). Digestibility test in vitro showed that
pepsin digested 62.83 % protein of O. belangeri and pepsin + trypsin digested 89.66 % protein of L. irrorata.
The enzyme digestes of O. belangeri unA M. albus contained 6 essential amino acids eac
