Abstract

An analysis of the demersal fish catch by the Iraqi trawlers in the northern part of the northern Arabian
Sea indicated that the highest catch rate (kg/h) was in April in both years. Despite the highly significant
variations of the catch rates, Sciaenidae, Stromateidae, Clupeidae and Carangidae seem to be the
abundant commercial fish families in both the years. Monthly biomass diversity showed wide range
which indicated that the study area could be classified as rich fishery area.
