Abstract
Studies were made on the feeding ecology of a freshwater carp, Cyprinion macrostomus (Heckel).Food composition, intensity of feeding and its variation with season, size and sex have been studied.
Diatoms and decayed organic matter alongwith sand and mud were found to be the main food items of
the fish which is an indication of its bottom feeding habit. Not much difference was noted in the food
composition of male and female fishes. Seasonal variations in the intensity of feeding are great. It was
found to be higher in maturing individuals and lower in the case of ripe individuals
