Abstract
Although the family Leiognathidae is commercially important, only afew studies have been made so far on the biology and fishery of certain species.
Arora (1951) studied the biology of L. splendens, Balan (1963) studied the
biology of L. bindus, James and Badrudeen (1975) gave an account of the
biology and fishery of L. brevirostris. Pillay (1972) studied the spawning habits
and fecundity of few species of leiognathids. James (MS) gave an account of
the biology and fishery of L. jonesi, and James and Badrudeen (1981) studied
the biology and fishery of L. dussumieri.
