ON THE ENDOPHRAGMAL SKELETON OF PRAWNS — A TAXONOMICAL APPROACH

Abstract
Endophragmal skeletons of Penaeus japonicus, Peiiaeus indicus, Metapenaeusdobsoni, Metapenaeus monoceros, Parapenaeopsis stylifera, Parapenaeopsis
maxillipedo and Solenocera indica are described in detail. Structuers like "Subopthalmic
apodeme", "Supraantennal apodeme" and "Oblique sternal rod" have
been tentatively named. Similarities and dissimilarities at the subfamilial, generic
and specific levels have been discussed. Based on the endophragmal skeleton, a
taxonomic key has been proposed for the seven species.
