STUDIES ON THE COMPARATIVE GROWTH RATES OF THREE MAJOR CARPS OF THE GOVINDGARH LAKE
273 / 448
Abstract
Comparative growth rates of C. catla, L. rohita and C. mrigala of theGovindgarh lake are studied by means of scales. The relationship between fish
length and scale length and time of formation of annuli are estimated. Instantaneous
and absolute growth rates of fishes have been calculated separately for each age
group. August to October and February to April have been observed as the
periods of highest growth and winter months as the period of least growth. The
growth curve of first year class fishes was affected chiefly by intensity of feeding
and of adults by feeding and maturation of gonads.
