Abstract

The feeding periodicities of Liza abu and Carasobarbus luteus from Al-
Hammar Marsh are denned at intervals of 3 h throughout the 24-h cycle. The
main food of L. abu is algae mixed with sand grains. On the other hand, C. luteus
feed mainly on detritus, aquatic plants and algae. One feeding peak per 24-h
period was observed for each species with the highest values of stomach fullness
occuring during the daylight. L. abu stops feeding around 02.00 hrs completely,
whereas C. luteus continues to feed during night, but with lower feeding intensity.
No feeding competitibn may occur between the two species
