Abstract

In the polyethylene-fiim-lined ponds at Calicut, Etroplus suratensis has
yielded an Instataneous growth rate varying between 0.01168 and 0.02262 and
spawned comparably with those cultured in other systems, though the production
and survival rates were not equal to the latter, indicating that the ponds can,
with proper monitoring, be used, besides as a culture system, as an effective
hatchery system for raising the seed of the fish.
