Abstract
DURING 1949-50 a series of fishing investigations were carried out along thesouth-western coast of India, off Travancore-Cochin. Two types of fishing
were mainly tried, viz., a system of' Dory fishing' or mother-ship operation,
and commercial trawling. The mother-ship operations were undertaken
by the Department of Marine Biology and Fisheries of the University of
Travancore and formed part of certain post-war Fishery Development
schemes jointly financed by the Travancore-Cochin Government and the
Government of India.
