SEASONAL VARIATIONS IN SALINITY, DISSOLVED OXYGEN AND NUTRIENT SALTS IN THE INSHORE WATERS OF THE GULF OF MANNAR AND PALK BAY NEAR MANDAPAM (S. INDIA)

Abstract
A PRELIMINARY account of the chemical conditions of the inshore watersof the Bay of Bengal off Madras City has been given in an earlier paper by
the author (1951). More detailed investigations in the same area have been
reported by Ramamurthy (1953). An extension of similar studies to other
typical centres has been considered desirable in order that a more comprehensive
picture of the seasonal changes in the chemical conditions of coastal
waters could be obtained. The present paper is an attempt to summarise
the results of investigations carried out at inshore stations in the Gulf of
Mannar and Palk Bay in the vicinity of Mandapam between the years 1950
to 1953.
