INFLUENCE OF CERTAIN OCEANOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON THE TRAWL CATCHES OFF MALFE, SOUTH KARNATAKA
70 / 57
Abstract
Monthwise and depthwise variations of different groups of demersal fishesencountered in the trawl catches off Malpe region are presented. Froni the data
collected simultaneously on oceanographic parameters and trawl catches an attempt
made to find out the relationship between the environmental factors and demersal
fisheries. A positive correlation was observed between bottom water temperature
and trawl catch, while the low oxygen content recorded during certain months,
as a result of upwelling along this part of the coast, was found to be one of the
factors responsible for the decrease in trawl catch.
