Abstract

Culturing of Penaeiis monodon (Fabricius) was successfully carried out in
a confined tank of 0.32 ha, in Ganjam, Orissa, with fertilizing and occasional pumping,
instead of the usual method of flushing with tidal water. With the water
fertilized with inorganic and organic fertilizers and the prawns fed with supplementary
feed, the experiment has yielded at a rate of 236 kg prawns{ha|126 days.
The average estimated growth was 1.11 mm|day and survival 30-35%.
