A SCALIMETRIC COMPARISON OF THE MALABAR SOLE CYNOGLOSSUS SEMIFASCIATUS DAY FROM DIFFERENT CENTRES OF WEST COAST
203 / 73
Abstract
Scales of Cynoglossus semifasciatus, collected from Galicut, Cannanore,Mangalore and Malpe during 1980, showed mostly three growth rings or checks
in them, one or more of these being false checks. While the cause of the occurrence
of the more or less regular three-ring pattern in the scales was not known, the
phenomenon was used for a scalimetric comparison of smaples of the fish from
the four centres with one another. The parametres measured were: the total
length, length from focus, maximum width and the distances from the focus to
three growth checks (designated as Li. L-.: and Ls.) corresponding to the first,
second and third rings respectively).
