SEASONAL VARIATION IN THE ECOSYSTEM OF THE LAKHOTIA LAKE IN RAJASTHAN
143 / 178
Abstract
In summer, the ecosystem in lake Lakhotia, in Pali, & district characterizedby extremes ot temperature and aridity, is, however, in a state of equilibrium.
In monsoon, this condition is reversed due to the effect of dilution by rains on
chemical and biotic factors. In winter, the factors are quickly re-established,
bringing the ecosystem back to the balanced state.
Transparency shows inverse relationship with phytoplankton, pH has negative
relationship with free carbondioxide and positive with bicarbonates. Silica is
inversely related to diatoms. Phosphate and nitrate are positively related to diatom
only in summer. Phytoplankton and chlorophyll-a has positive relationship with
primary production, but inversely related to zooplankton
