REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY OF INDIAN ROCK OYSTER CRASSOSTREA CUCULLATA
153 / 161
Abstract
Comparatively less attention has been paid on the reproductive cyclesof commercially important marine bivalves from Indian waters, unlike those
from temperate zone. A few recorded investigations are that of Rao (1956)
on C. madrasensis of Madras coast, Durve (1965) on C. gryphoides of Bombay
coast, Alagarswami (1966) on Donax faba and Rao (1967) on D. cuneaius of
Mandapam coast. Since no work has been done on the reproductive biology
of edible oyster, C. cuculla:ta, from the west coast of India, the study was undertaken
from January to December 1973.
