Abstract

Analy.ses of the stomach oonrtents are the only source in eluciooting the
food habit of fislhes. The well known methods applied in the analyses of the stomaClh
Cbntentsw-e (a) numerical, (b) vdiimetric and (c) gdrwnietric. Hynes
(1950) hasbreifiy reviewed the methods of gut contentana:lyses in fishes and
has expI'essedth'at any commoruyaccepted method of assessing the compOIsi,tion
of the diet· will give subSltan1ti·allythe same result. Pil:1a'Y (1952) dilscussed the
defects and advantages of various methods employed in the study of food fishes
and suggested ,that volumetric ana1ysis of gut contents was ·the most satisf.actory
of all other methods
