Abstract

Except Etrop{us spp. no ofJher brackishwwter fish breeds ~n oonfined
waters. Henoe, till such time When adieq:t,l'ate quantities of seed could be produced
by con:trolled breeding, fJhe stocldng material has to be collected from
natural SOUTee'S. The transfer of fry fnom a more stable ootural environment to
a lel1itic hab~tJat sUlbjects them to coIl!Sidenlble diffel'ences in '!!he oonditions of the
media. If th'ese hydrographic conditiOOls 'oce appredable, ,the' fry are adversely
,affected, ~esu~ting in many eas'es, in heavy mOfl~ality.
