Abstract

The Mahseer (Tor putitora) ha,s belen reoognised both as an excellent
sport fish and as food fish. It is known to occur ,all along the Himalayas extending
from Kashmir in the we's.t to the State of Assam in the east, extendrng as
far 'as China. A,lthough il:!he fish is impOl1tant both fcom the commerciai and
sport fishedes, very ,scanty information 'On the biologicai aspects of this species
is ,avaitable in ,the litel'!bture.
