Abstract

Observations oon the biology and bI1e,eding characteI1istics of 'Panulirus
homarus in 'the fishery 'Of the southwest ooast of India <8Il1d of the South African
coas,t were made by George, (1967) and Berry (1970, 1971) respectivdy. Berry
(1971) reporved 'tihart female P. homarus bred repetitively up to four breeding
cycles in an y'ear. The bI1eediiJllg of~he laibOoratoryl'eaPed P. homarus is repOONed
here for rhefirst time in India. ChiH1eborOoug!h (1974) succerss£ully l'eaT'ed the
western mck 'lobster fI10m pueruilus stage to maturity and spawned th'em ~n
captivity under cOontrolled conditions
