Abstract

The breeding season of PMnriu; sarana subnasutus (Val.) in Veli Lake,
Trivandrum, extends from late May to early November. Peak spawning occurs in
July and October. The ratio of males to females in the population is approximately
1:2. Gonado-somatic index of both sexes shows highest values in June
and September. Size at first maturity has been fixed at 183 mm. There is
significant correlation between fecundity and ovary weight, but the statistical
relationship of fecundity to the length and weight of the fish is non-significant.
