Abstract

A record of a stranded sperm whale, an adolescent female measuring
837 cm in length, is reported iwta Karwar which is the second instance for its
occurrence along the Indian coast. Its morphomietric data and other details
are presented. It is possible that the animal would have strayed into the coastal
waters after sustaining an injury or while in the pursuit of prey. It is suggested
that the earlier record must relate to a bigger specimen than is credited with.
