SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE USE OF POULTRY MANURE AS FERTILIZER IN REARING MAJOR CARP FRY
134 / 78
Abstract
Experiments conducted in cement cisterns with spawn of major carps, using poultrymanure with cowdung, have given better results than those using cowdung alone. A
high rate of stocking is possible with appreciable growth and better survival rate. A second
crop with slightly low survival rate and growth can easily be obtained by directly stocking
the spawn immediately after removal of the first crop. The important factors responsible
for this fast growth seem to be the maintenance of a high level of readily available
soluble salts (specific conductivity) for prolonged periods in the overlying water. Application
of poultry manure regularly in low doses can produce desirable results
