Abstract

The use of nonequilibrium Schaefer surplus production model in lieu of itsequilibrium version was found suitable to obtain point estimates  of variousimportant biological  parameters. However, policy makers while arriving atoptimal management practices for a stock, may like to provide  interval esti-mates rather than point estimates in order to take into account the samplingbias. To this end, efforts are made to employ  “Bootstrap methodologyâ€.  It isdemonstrated that before computing various quantities of biological impor-tance, like maximum sustainable yield (MSY) and optimum effort, bootstrapanalysis should invariably be carried out for assessing  reliability of estimates.
