Limnology and fish production efficiencies of selected reservoirs of Karnataka
184 / 183
Abstract
The river systems including canals, minor and small tanks and reservoirs of Karnataka are highly productive and hold a wide spectrum of fish genetic resources. In spite of it, the average fish production in these water bodies is less than 10 kg ha-1. Scientific fisheries management of these water bodies can increase the fish production substantially. With this in view, the ReservoirDivision of CIFRI has undertaken a rapid survey of some selected reservoirs in Karnataka during 1995-97. Eleven reservoirs in three major river systems were surveyed during pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon periods.
