Abstract
Haemolymph proteins of the Indian white shrimp, Penaeus indicus in various stages of the moult cycle and ovarian development were characterized by Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel discontinuous electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). No specific protein or polypeptide was detected during the various moult stages. In the females with developing and mature ovary, a distincthaemolymph protein pattern was observed. The presence of female specific proteins in the haemolymph is described. The FSPs stained positive for PAS, Oil Red O and Alizarin Red. The peculiar pattern of hemocyanin fractions during vitellogenesis is discussed.
