Morphometrics of the alimentary canal of some freshwater fishes of West Bengal in relation to their food and feeding habits
173 / 274
Abstract
The morphometric parameters of the alimentary canal of 50 species of commerciallyimportant freshwater fishes of West Bengal were analysed. The studies
revealed interspecific variation due to variation in the feeding habits. A positive
relationship of the bucco-pharyngeal length with the stomach length and
with oesophageal length has been observed. An inverse relationship has been
observed between bucco-pharyngeal length and intestinal length and also between
stomach length and intestinal length. The importance of these relationships
has been discussed.
