Abstract

Some aspects of biology of Parapercis alboguttata from south west coast are
studied. The distribution was recorded up to 70 m depth in the continental
shelf. An incidental catch of 16.6 Kg hr-1 was recorded from 10° 06’N 75°53’E
which contributed to 9.04% of the total catch at the depth of 40 m. The lengthweight
relationship of this species exhibits an isometric growth since its ‘b’ value
did not differ significantly from theoretical value of 3. The Kn value indicates
that the older specimens are more robust than the younger ones. Gut content
analysis confirmed that Parapercis alboguttata is a bottom feeding carnivore
for which crabs and teleosts are the major food items.
