Cattle urine as a befitting source of nutrients for carp production
222 / 238
Abstract
Experiments were conducted for the production of carps using cattle urine as asource of essential plant nutrients. Treatment pond (0.1 ha) was fertilized
exclusively with urine excreted by six cattle. Control pond (0.1 ha) was fertilized
following the norms of CIFE (1992). The extrapolated total production of the six
species of carps from the ponds fertilized with cattle urine (5.596 t / ha/yr) was
higher than that of the control pond (4.215 t/ha/yr). The total input of nutrients
(N, P& K) calculated for the treatment pond was higher than that of the control
counterpart. All the six species of carps grown in treatment pond exhibited
significantly (P<0.05 to 0.001) higher values of production than the control pond.
In the light of the results obtained in the present study, utilization of cattle urine
in carp production has been highlighted
