Length-weight relationship of male morphotypes of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man) as a valid index for differentiating their developmental pathway and growth phases

Abstract
Length-weight relationship of three male morphot}?pes of Macrobrachiumrosenbergii (de Man) such as small male (SM), orange clawed male (OC), blue
clawed male (BC) and two transitional stages each of OC and BC viz., weak orange
clawed male (WOO and pre-transforming orange clawed male (t-SOC) of the
former and weak blue clawed male (WBC) and old blue clawed male (OBC) of the
latter were calculated. Analysis of covariance revealed that both the slope and
elevation were significantly different. Pair wise comparison clearly showed that
except between SM & OBC, WOC & SBC, WOC & t-SOC, WOC & WBC, t-SOC
& WBC and t-SOC & SBC, WBC & SBC regression coefficients were significantly
different in all other combinations at 1% level. Except WBC and SBC, regression
coefficients of all other morphotypes showed significant difference from the
isometric value of 3. Regression coefficients of various male morphotypes and their
intermediary stages conform to the earlier demarcation of male morphotype of
M. rosenbergii based on somatic growth and reproductive capability.
