Abstract
A study was conducted on the rearing of hybrid magur (Clarias gariepinus xClarias macrocephalus) (which was introduced by private fish seed traders in
Assam in 1994) with the objective of evaluating its suitability for rearing in Assam.
Experiment on cannibalism, monoculture in pond, polyculture with carps and
monoculture in cement cistern, revealed its non suitability in Assam. The study
suggested immediate extermination of the fish from Assam and licit action to stop
trading of seeds of this fish.
