Length-weight relationships in the ponyfishes Leiognathus splendens (Cuv.) and Gazza minuta (Bloch) of Parangipettai

Abstract
The length-weight relationships in 2 species of ponyfishes, Leiognathus splendens and Gazza minuta were estimated from the samples collected at Parangipettai. As significant variations in the regression coefficients of lengthweight relationships were noticed between different stages of gonadial maturity of males and females (immature male, mature male, immature female, mature female) of both the species, individual equations were derived for each category. While, the value of exponent n of various categories in the parabolic equation for L. splendens ranged between 3.0315 and 3.2291, the same ranged from 2.5939 to 3.1629 in different stages of G. minuta.Downloads
