Abstract
A study of the seasonal abundance of commercially important prawn and fish seed in Hooghly-Matlah estuary during post - Farakka barrage period revealed that the area of distribution of Penaeus monodon and P. indicus was reduced in comparison to pre-Farakka barrage period. Downward shifting of the salinity zone in the estuary, due to increased freshwater discharge during the post-Farakka season appears to be the probable reason for the observed decrease. A seed calendar for the Hooghly-Matlah estuarine system has been prepared based on the present study.Downloads
