Abstract

The inferior pharyngeal teeth counts and five morphometric characters of diagnostic significance v/ere opted for statistically evaluating the populations of Schizothorax richardsonii and S. plagiostomus inhabiting the river Alaknanda in Sringaar (Garhwal). The analysis of measures of central tendency and disperson, body proportions, correlation and regression coefficients and their significance tests along with analysis of variance and covariance revealed the anal fin length (AFL = Y2) as a character of diagnostic significance (P<0.05). The relationship of AFL with A-CFBL (anal to caudal fin base length=Y3) in the species under investigation was found to be an important, feature. The relatively longer AFL and smaller A-CFBL in S.plagiostomus serve to distinguish it from S. richardsonii. The text also deals with their systematic position
