Abstract
The anabolic effect of thyroxine (T4 ) was studied in Sarotherodon mossambicus. The growth parameters of the fish fed with pellets made of wheat flour and groundnut oil cake as indicated by mean body weight, growth percentage and specific growth rate and food conversion efficiency were estimated at the end of every week after the administration of commercially available sodium-Lthyroxine (T4 ). The hormone treatment was given by two different routes - injection for 7 and 14 days and immersion for 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. Two dosages of hormone were selected for injection study (2 /lg and 5 /lg/10 g body weight) and immersion study (0.25 and 1.00 ppm). Thyroxine injection and immersion induced a significant improvement in mean body weight, growth (%), specific growth rate and food conversion efficiency. There was no mortality during the experimental period. The control and experimental fish consumed food normallyDownloads
