Abstract
The food and feeding habits of Heteropneustes fossils (Bloch), an air-breathing cat fish of commercial importance from the Brahmaputra river system in Assam are described. The fry are planktophagus and the juveniles feed on crustacea, plant matter, miscellaneous matter and insects. Adults feed on insects, detritus and plant matter. Detailed studies on the index of preponderance, seasonal variation of foods, gastrosomatic index and feeding intensity are described.Downloads
