Fungitoxic properties of plant extracts against Alternaria tenuissima: new sp. infecting eggplant in India
256 / 335
Abstract
Leaf extracts from seven plant species were tested against A. tenuissima, the causal fungus of leaf spot of eggplant under in-vitro and in-vivo condition. Maximum inhibition of mycelial growth was observed in leaf/bulb extracts of garlic (Allium sativum), neem (Azadirachta indica) and prosopis (Prosopis juliflora) at 15% (v/v) concentration. The leaf extracts of Lantana camera, Calotropis procera and Vinca rosea were not effective in in-vitro as well as in-vivo. Maximum reduction of 62.1% disease intensity was observed in pot culture experiments after spraying with garlic bulb extract at 10%(v/v) concentration followed by 58.2 and 57.6 per cent reduction by Azadirachta indica and Prosopis juliflora respective extract at the same concentration.
