Combined efficacy of Pseudomonas fluorescens strain MBPF-01 and nanocopper against bacterial leaf blight in rice

Abstract
Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae is a major threat of rice production. We report the efficacy of P. fluorescens strain MBPF-01, an antagonistic phylloplane resident of mungbean, alone or in combination with nanocopper against rice bacterial blight in vitro and in vivo. Different treatment combinations of nanocopper and strain MBPF-01 were tested. One spray of nanocopper at the time of pathogen inoculation followed by spraying of strain MBPF-01 at 7 d interval was most effective in suppressing (by 70 % over control) the disease intensity. We also observe reduced BLB intensity on plants sprayed with strain MBPF-01 even a week before challenge inoculation of test pathogen suggesting that the suppression perhaps, was mediated through induced resistance.
