Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Kurukshetra (India) to determine the seasonal variation of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi associated with Tectona grandis and Dendrocalamus strictus. In Tectona grandis, VAM colonization was less in winter, remained moderate in summer and increased in the rainy season. Similarly, the most VAM spores were found in rainy season, moderate numbers in winter and the least in summer. In Dendrocalamus strictus, VAM root colonization decreased in winter and summer and reached maximum in rainy season. VAM spores increased in rainy season then steadily decreased in winter and summer. Glomus sp. was the dominant VAM fungi recovered at the site.
